On the 29th of January we went to Arthurs pass for a drive It was a beautiful drive with temeratures reaching 35 degrees once we got into the mountains.
There are a couple of pictures here of Pines Beach too, close to where we live.
The Otira Viaduct, built in 1998/99. The road used to go over to the right where you can see the land slides have been. See this link for more information.

Just past Otira, notice the roof to save the road from rock falls and the water diverted over the road.

Castle Hill, named because of all the rocks. This is very popular with climbers.
The Waimakariri river, taken at Waimakariri Gorge. The mouth of this is very close to our house. The river has much more water in it than this in the spring and after rain.
